Tecnimar: More than 50 years of maritime leadership in Colombia

Origins of Tecnimar
Tecnimar S.A.S. was founded in 1973 by Captain Jorge Dahl Restrepo in the historic city of Cartagena, Colombia. Initially, Captain Dahl worked as a pilot pilot and tugboat captain, which allowed him to develop a deep knowledge of the maritime sector and establish key connections in the industry. At a time when Colombian ports were administered by the state, Captain Dahl stood out for his commitment to safety and efficiency in port operations.

Later, Captain Dahl acquired his first tugboat, and together with his son, Carlos J. Dahl Pareja, who served as first mate, began a family legacy in the maritime industry. This father-son bond cemented the values of professionalism and dedication that would define Tecnimar for years to come.

Privatization drive in the 1990s
In 1991, during the government of César Gaviria, Colombian ports underwent a significant change with the privatization of port terminals and services. This change opened up new opportunities for private companies, and Tecnimar seized the moment. The company intensified its commercial efforts and began to expand its client base in a sector in full transformation.

Following this privatization, Tecnimar experienced remarkable growth. The company gained the confidence of important industry clients such as Conastil, Petroquímica, SIPSA and Alcalis, who were among the first to rely on the practical pilotage services of Captain Jorge Dahl. Privatization also facilitated the arrival of large international operators such as Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, which consolidated Tecnimar's position in the market as a reliable provider of specialized maritime services.

Founding of Intertug and the consolidation of Tecnimar
That same year, Tecnimar partnered with another family in the maritime industry to found Intertug, a company that further strengthened its presence in the industry. Carlos J. Dahl, who had worked closely with his father, joined Intertug and actively contributed to the growth of this new company, while continuing his work as a pilot pilot at Tecnimar.

It was during this period of expansion and strategic alliances that Tecnimar consolidated its position as the leading company in pilot pilotage services in Colombia, an achievement that reflects the vision and commitment of Captain Dahl and his family.

Tecnimar today
Today, Tecnimar continues to be a benchmark in the Colombian maritime industry. With more than 50 years of experience, the company has a team of more than 20 expert pilots, including master pilots and first and second class pilots, who guarantee the highest level of service and safety in every operation. The company has evolved to adapt to the demands of the modern market, integrating advanced technology and sustainability processes in its daily operations.

Currently, Tecnimar is dedicated not only to offer practical pilotage services, also boat transportation and mooring services (through its allied company Tecnilan) and with this to build solid and trustworthy relationships with its clients in Colombia and abroad. Through constant innovation and commitment to excellence, Tecnimar continues its mission of leadership in the maritime sector, carrying forward the legacy of Captain Jorge Dahl.
